ABOUT ME

Jojo Piedad (he/they) is a Filipino 2D and Experimental Animation artist based in Vancouver, Canada. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Media Arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, specializing in 2D and experimental practices.

His work focuses on background layout and environment design, exploring how space, atmosphere, and composition shape narrative tone and character presence. Working primarily in Toon Boom Harmony, Photoshop, and the Adobe Creative Suite, Jojo develops environments that integrate closely with animation pipelines while remaining attentive to visual storytelling. His approach shifts between realism, cartoon, and stylized aesthetics depending on the needs of each project.

Jojo has contributed background and cleanup animation to multiple short films at Emily Carr and has collaborated within shared production pipelines to support directors’ visions. He is currently co-directing an animated short film with Ash Chan, expanding his practice into narrative development and visual direction. Across both independent and collaborative contexts, Jojo is drawn to building spaces that feel lived-in and intentional, where the setting is not a backdrop, but an active part of the story.
